Suction Strainers

Suction Filters
Suction filters are required for protection of the downstream hydraulic-pump from coarse contamination, mainly due to lack of initial cleaning or to an accidental ingression. They take care of the pump, ensuring a safe and efficient operation. The Suction Filters must be always properly sized to avoid cavitation of the pump.

Please note that the general cleanliness level required by the system must be ensured by the filters having that function (Return or Pressure Filters). Suction filters represent the “first-line” filtration and are used to:

Avoid the ingress of contamination into the hydraulic circuit.
Prolong the lifetime of finer downstream filtration.
Reduce the particulate load on the finer filter, thus extending service life-intervals, unplanned downtime and maintenance.
Avoid damage to the finer downstream filter from coarse particulate, such as rust.

Pressure Filters
The Pressure Line Filters is an essential part in most hydraulic systems. When the hydraulic components are sophisticated, with close tolerances and a regulation function (not simply that of control) the use of filters in the pressure lines is a must. Main-line, high-efficiency, full-flow fine filtration for the protection of precision valves and fluid-power proportional controls.

High-performance, high-dirt-holding capacity, micro-fibre filter elements keep the cost of ownership (running-costs) low between planned vehicle service-intervals.

Return Filters
The Return Filter is an essential part of any hydraulic system. In many instances, it is the only “system protection” provided and therefore must be carefully chosen to ensure maximum system efficiency and should be sized for the maximum flow of the hydraulic system.

Off-line Filters
UFI Hydraulic Division OFF-LINE FILTERS take care of the efficiency and guarantee the long life of the system by keeping the oil at the desired cleanliness values.

“Built-in” – contamination left in the system or in componentry during initial vehicle assembly or vehicle repair/re-build.
“Brought-in” – components and/or sub-assemblies “brought-in” or manufactured off-line/off-site, may be contaminated and add to the overall levels of contamination on the vehicle during assembly, repair or re-build.
“Induced-in” – contamination internally “induced” into the system during operation and performance-testing or caused by wear, corrosion, agitation, oxidation or hydraulic-fluid degradation.
“Taken-in” – Externally introduced contamination that enters a system from the atmosphere via insufficiently sealed orifices, covers or access-points.

Transmission Filters
In machines with a hydrostatic drive and combined working hydraulic system, return-suction filters replace the suction or pressure filters previously required for the feed pump of the closed-loop hydrostatic drive circuit as well as the return filter for the open-loop working hydraulic circuit. While each circuit operates independently with separate filters, the combination of the two circuits via the return-suction filter causes interaction between the circuits.

Only 1 filter for 2 functions: Filtering the oil returning from the hydraulic system and feeding the boost pump with cleanest oil. Less piping required / fewer potential leakage points. The charge-pump takes oil at a slight pressure (0.5 bar), avoiding cavitation risks but also contributing to good cold-start behaviour. Charge-pump protection as the oil supplied is already pre-filtered.

Filter element working from inside to outside allows retained contamination to be completely removed when replacing the element.

Visual and electrical level indicators of fluid for hydraulic tank. Oil bath air filters for prolonged use in particularly dusty environments, to ensure an excellent level of filtering and a long working life. For very dusty environments can be provided with cyclone prefiltering.

Clogging Indicators
During the system operation, the pressure drop through the filter increases as the element clogs, due to the contaminant retained. The filter element must be replaced when clogged and anyway before the pressure drop reaches the bypass valve set value. For this reason it is recommended a clogging indicator on the filter. It gives a visual or electrical indication and must have a set value lower than the bypass valve set value, to get an exact indication of the right time for filter element replacement.

Continuously monitoring of the filter element condition that gives an exact indication of the efficiency status of the filter. Avoiding of unnecessary element changes, thanks to the indication of the need for Filter Element change only when really necessary.
